Wincing while listening - The Shins

Shins Wincing the Night Away

The Shins latest album, Wincing the Night Away, makes me wince listening to it. Granted, it’s hard to top their 2003 release Chutes Too Narrow, but I think this is a step in the wrong direction. There are maybe one or two songs on Wincing that are classic catchy Shins tunes. The rest seems to me to be over produced sappy sad bastard tunes.

Really??? I actually kind of like it. Granted, like you said, it’s hard to top “Chutes too Narrow” and “Oh, Inverted World”, but after liking the Shins for this long, I had to give it a buy and a few listens, and thus far, I really enjoy it. It is way more produced, possibly even over produced. The good ole lo - fi shins is gone. damn the seaguls.

Yeah the lo-fi ness is what made the shins the shins. without that they are just another indie band.
